ROME TOWNSHIP — Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office has identified an alleged suspect in Monday’s robbery at US Bank in Rome Township.

Warrants have been issued for Elvis Presley Kerns, 34, of Wheelersburg, for robbery, according to Sheriff Jeff Lawless.

Kerns is also a suspect in a bank robbery last week in Wheelersburg, the sheriff said.

“We have been working with the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office since the onset since there was a suspect with similar description and motives,” Lawless said. “Scioto County had a name of who the suspect was.”

Their description allegedly matched up with a man seen on the surveillance video at US Bank.

Scioto County officials issued warrants Tuesday morning for robbery for Kerns.

Although the robber left the Rome Township bank on foot, Lawless said his office is looking for a 1990 gold Chevrolet Cavalier with the license plate of FTK 1183. The car has tinted windows bubbled all over with a sticker in the rear window that supports coal miners.

Just after noon Monday a man went into US Bank to cash a check. When the teller questioned him about it, the man then demanded the teller give him all of her money.

That man has been described as a white male, between the ages of 30 and 40 years old, 5-foot-9, wearing sunglasses, a ball cap and a dark-colored pullover windbreaker. He also has a brown moustache.

Kerns’ whereabouts is unknown at this time, Lawless said.

“We are working along with several agencies throughout the Tri-State,” he said.
