SOUTH POINT — The 46th annual Chesapeake and Proctorville Lions Club track and field meet was called Operation TLC.

In this case, the TLC could have stood for track with a large crowd.

Before a large crowd on a cool, crisp evening, the Fairland Dragons and Lady Dragons came away with team titles at the annual event.

This year’s event was marked by the presentation of the Jeff Holley Trophy to the school with the best combined boys’ and girls’ team scores. Fairland won the award that was named for Holley, a 1984 graduate of Fairland who died last year.

Holley was a former Ohio Valley Conference meet champion in the 400-meter dash and the 1600-meter relay despite suffering from Cystic Fibrosis.

The award was presented by Holley’s parents, Jay and Candy Holley of Proctorville. Jay Holley is a past president of the Lions Club.

The Fairland boys piled up 140 points with runner-up South Point getting 118 points. The Lady Dragons outdistanced the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 129-80.

Participating teams included Rock Hill, South Point, Chesapeake, Fairland, Spring Valley, W.Va., Ashland, Ky., and Raceland, Ky.

Operation TLC is a litter awareness and beautification organization concentrated on the eastern end of Lawrence County. It is another project of the club that uses the proceeds from the annual track meet to help purchase eyeglasses and pay for eye exams for people unable to afford the cost of either item.
