The River Hills community will wrap up its Youth Empowerment Activities summer camp Thursday with a cookout and health fair.

The event, sponsored by the Appalachian Family and Children First Council and Our Lady Bellefonte Hospital, starts at 11:30 a.m. and will included health screenings and inflatables for the children.

Diva Justice, director of healthy community initiatives for OLBH, said the event has been successful in past years and is a way for the Ninth Street community to come together.

“It offers a time when the community can get together and socialize and enjoy the day, have lunch,” Justice said. “…We’ve been trying to work to provide more opportunities for people in the Ninth Street community to have.”

The cookout and health fair will be in the River Hills Community Center hosted by the Ironton Metropolitan Housing Authority and coordinated by the Family Guidance Center Prevention Unit.

Other organizations to participate are the Ironton Fire Department, city and county health departments, Lawrence County Emergency Medical Services, Lawrence County Early Childhood Academy, Help Me Grow, Ironton-Lawrence Community Action Organization, Family Medical Center, Family Guidance Center and Big Brothers, Big Sisters.
