Road closure scheduled

Leatherwood Road will remain closed at 200 County Road 30 for landslide repair for up to the next 10 days.

This work is part of the more than 150 landslides that occurred on county roadways in the spring of 2011.

 

Fairland BOE meeting Tuesday

The Fairland Local Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Fairland High School regarding personnel.

 

Mountwest offers deckhand basic training

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Mountwest Community & Technical College is offering deckhand basic training Aug. 5 – 11 through the Inland Waterways Academy. At the completion of this seven-day training, participants will be equipped with the skills and certification needed to join the rapidly-growing maritime industry.

Chesapeake church announces menus for free lunches

CHESAPEAKE — The Chesapeake United Methodist Church continues to offer free lunches to all area children and youth.

All youth and children from age 1 to 18 are welcome, along with young adults with disability up to age 21. Serving time is from 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. The meals are provided in partnership from the Scioto County Community Action Agency, and are prepared at local school cafeterias.

The menus for the week of July 22 include chicken nuggets, corn dog, turkey and cheese on a bun, spaghetti with meat sauce, and taco salad. In addition, each day’s meal includes a vegetable, fruit, and choice of milk. Menus are subject to change.

Old-time festival set

MOREHEAD, Ky. — The 8th Annual Morehead Old-Time Music Festival will be Friday and Saturday at the Jaycee Farm on U.S. 60 East in Morehead.

Cash prize contests in fiddle, banjo, dulcimer, string band, dancing and singing.

Nightly square dances with live music and callers. Tickets are $10 on Friday, $15 on Saturday or $20 for the weekend.
