More than 100 crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation – District 9 highway maintenance facilities continue their efforts today to clear the state highways.

Although snow accumulations have been light, snowplow operators from Adams, Brown, Highland and Ross counties reported pavement mostly icy, with some areas of compacted snow and ice.

In Jackson, Lawrence, Pike and Scioto counties, crews reported pavement as wet.

However, roadways are slick and ice is likely to form as the temperature falls and wind gusts increase.

Crews will plow and treat routes throughout this winter storm; however, motorists need to use extreme caution, remembering that wet pavement is also slick pavement.

And in addition to slick, icy roadways, the extreme cold, wind chill and possible wind gusts may cause other hazardous conditions. Drivers need to be prepared and alert; those who must travel are reminded to have their vehicles well-stocked with emergency supplies, drive slowly and allow additional travel time.
