The schedule has been tougher. So has the St. Joseph Female Flyers’ attitude.

Playing a stronger schedule this season, the Female Flyers have found themselves in tough games and tough situations. That was the case Saturday against the Manchester Lady Greyhounds.

The Female Flyers trailed by 16 points early in the fourth quarter and rallied to within one point with a minute to play before losing 49-46.

“Manchester was just red-hot early,” said St. Joseph coach Nick Miller. “Even though we’ve been losing some games, I like the fact the girls are still playing hard and battling to the end.”

Hannah Rideout scored six points in the first quarter as Manchester took an 18-10 lead. Hannah Miller scored eight of St. Joseph’s 10 points.

Morgan Johnson had six points in the second quarter as Manchester went up 28-17 at the half. Miller scored six more points for the Female Flyers.

Amber Neal began to heat up in the third quarter as she scored 10 points and St. Joseph cut the deficit to 36-28.

After the Greyhounds took a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter, Miller scored seven points and Neal five more as St. Joseph got within a point. But Johnson had six points as Manchester held on for the win.

Miller had 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists for the Female Flyers (9-6). Neal got 15 points including three 3-pointers. Bri Bridges grabbed seven rebounds and Lynsey Booker had five rebounds, four assists and four steals.

The Female Flyers were just 15-of-56 from the field for 27 percent and only 4-of-19 from the 3-point line.
