ASHLAND, Ky. — The United States Marine recruitment center in Ashland, Ky. is welcoming a new recruiter to the area.

Sgt. Travis Robins, a native of Virginia who served a tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2011, will join the stable of recruiters for the Tri-State.

“I’m pretty excited to start something different,” Robins said. “It’s a different job than I’ve ever done before but I am ready for the challenges and the new location.”

Robins has served in the Marines for more than eight years including stops at Camp Pendleton in California and Camp LeJeune in North Carolina. Before obtaining his position as a recruiter Robins was previously an optics tech.

“I was the guy fixing and outfitting night vision goggles, guns and tanks,” Robins said. “Pretty much if it was on the ground and you could see and shoot with it — I fixed it.”
