Pati Payne dipped her brush into the paint-soaked water to turn white paper into a Japanese garden.

She got her inspiration from a Japanese restaurant she had recently visited and was interpreting a photograph of that garden into her own work of art.

“This was outside the restaurant and I always carry my camera with me at all times looking for inspiration,” Payne said.

As Payne was painting, she also had on display a variety of her works as part of the second annual Junefest Arts and Craft Festival at the Briggs Lawrence County Library in Ironton on Saturday.

The festival is one of a variety of events the library puts on to introduce people to what it has to offer the community.

Vendors took their places along the upstairs corridor and the second floor meeting room.

Margaret Baise of Chesapeake was showing off her crocheting, which she taught her self.

“My sister tried to teach me but she is left handed and I’m right handed,” Baise said.

This was her first time at the Junefest and her second show where she displayed baby blankets, afghans, smiley face magnets and chainstitched necklaces.

Violet Stapleton had her embroidered blankets and pillow cases to display.

“My mother taught me,” she said. “I can sit down and do this and not pay any attention to what is going on around me. I can stay up for hours doing this.”

Junefest was an event sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
