Four-year-old Marlee Hannah swirled the blue paint around on the paper until it rivaled the sky above.

“I love this,” she said as her grandmother, Kendra Hannah, watched. Hannah of South Shore brings her granddaughter who lives in Portsmouth to the Farmers Market each week.

“We just love it here,” Hannah said. “The prices are great and everyone is so friendly.”

This Saturday was the second time for the Ohio University Southern Collaborative to give young children the chance to try out their artistic bent.

The game plan was to present bubble art, where bubbles are blown into dishes of paint through a straw until the bubbles well up and over the dish. Then paper goes over the dish with the idea that the bubbles make their own special imprint.

However, for some reason all that didn’t quite work out. But nobody seemed to mind.

“The kids would rather paint with a brush,” Kenna Kelley, president of the collaborative, said.

“You can see their masterpieces,” Sarah Simmons, vice president of the collaborative, said.

The collaborative plans to offer a new art experience every other week at the Saturday Farmer’s Market.

“This is a way to bring art into the community,” Simmons said.

Next time the collaborative will offer finger painting and because of the holiday will be at the market this Saturday.
