OLBH to host A.P.P.L.E. kickoff Jan. 17

Geared towards Kentucky children 

RUSSELL, Ky. — Bon Secours Kentucky Health System will host a free kickoff event for the Appalachian Partnership for Positive Living and Eating (A.P.P.L.E.) from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17 at Bellefonte Pavilion, 2000 Ashland Drive, on the campus of Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

A.P.P.L.E. is open to Boyd and Greenup county children ages pre-K to 12th grade and their families. The A.P.P.L.E. program is a family focused model for improving health and wellness among area youth through positive lifestyle changes. The program is free, as is the kickoff event. Current A.P.P.L.E. families and those interested in learning more concerning the program are invited to the kickoff.

The event is an opportunity to learn about A.P.P.L.E. as well as receive free health screenings, nutritional information, diabetes education, cooking demonstrations and fitness information.

Healthy snacks will be provided and more than $2,500 in prizes will be given away to attendees, including bicycles, FitBits, iPods, sports equipment and gift certificates.

The A.P.P.L.E. program is provided by the Ashland-Boyd County Health Department through funding from the Astra Zeneca Health Care Foundation.

In addition to the health and information fair, the A.P.P.L.E. kickoff event also will include officials from the Healthy Choices Kentucky and the Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities health coalitions making a special announcement.
