Coal Grove shuts down South Point, 63-29

COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Hornets went inside and out to get a win.

Travis Carey handled the outside scoring and Austen Pleasants did the work inside as the Hornets rolled past the South Point Pointers 63-29 on Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Carey and Pleasants both scored 16 points as Coal Grove improved to 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the league.

South Point (2-10, 1-6) got 6 points each from Brady Rickard and Jared Whitt.

Carey scored 7 points in the first quarter including a 3-pointer as Coal Grove went ahead 13-2.

Pleasants had 4 points and Jonathon Joseph knocked down a trey as the Hornets went ahead 23-7 at the half.

Pleasants got the hot hand in the third quarter with 9 points and Coal Grove extended the lead to 38-15.

The Hornets outscored the Pointers 25-14 in the fourth quarter. Carey had 6 points while Jordan Lucas and Jacob Pierce had 4 points each. Jared Whitt had 6 points for South Point.

In league games on Friday, Coal Grove visits Portsmouth while South Point hosts Chesapeake.
