SOUTH POINT — A three month investigation finally led to the arrest of David Alexander Rann, 21, of 109 Ella St., South Point, around 7 p.m. Monday evening on seven counts of trafficking in heroin and seven counts of possession of heroin, a total of 14-fifth degree felonies.

South Point police officers conducted several controlled purchases from the residence on Ella Street over the course of the investigation, according to South Point Police Chief Chris Mahjer. Mahjer said that the substance being sold was powdered heroin.

In conjunction with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, the South Point Police Department obtained a narcotics search warrant for the residence, but Rann fled moments before officers arrived, Mahjer said.

“One of the surveillance officers noticed the primary suspect (Rann) left the home,” Mahjer said. “We made a traffic stop and two arrests were made out of the vehicle.”

Along with Rann, Ny-Thau Brown, 18, of 38 Township Road 1408, South Point, was arrested with charges of possession of heroin and tampering with evidence. Brown was driving the vehicle at the time of the arrests.

Following the arrests, a search of the residence was conducted.

The investigation is ongoing and according to the South Point Police Department, additional charges are likely.
