Ohio University Southern Campus hosted a Halloween Health Fair on Thursday in the main rotunda of the Riffe Center.

Fourth year nursing students, who are due to graduate in the spring, were in costume and teamed up with representatives from Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Kentucky, and Hospice of Huntington for the event.

OLBH offered checks of bone density, blood sugar, hemoglobin and total cholesterol, while hospice representatives provided information about the services they offer, Mashawna Hamilton, an assistant professor of nursing at the school, said.

Hamilton said students broke into teams prior to the event, and researched the health problems of the area, assessed care needs and presented their information on displays at the fair.

“The most prevalent problems for each county were the same — heart, lung, obesity,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton said the turnout for the event was good through the morning, and was expecting heavier traffic in the afternoon.

Hamilton said that this was the second Halloween health fair for OUS, and that several health fairs are offered throughout the year.
