Bank robbery suspects were the focus of a raid in South Point Thursday evening.

“It was a joint investigation between multiple agencies from Kentucky, West Virginia and Ohio,” South Point police chief Chris Mahjer said. “It was in reference to bank robbery suspects. “

According to South Point Police’s Facebook page, the incident happened at a residence on Linden Avenue, near the old South Point High School, on Wednesday afternoon, at approximately 8 p.m.

Village law enforcement assisted the FBI and its SWAT team, the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms, Waverly Police, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department, Vinton County Sheriff’s Department, West Virginia State Police, Columbus Police and the Woodsfield Police.

Federal arrest and search warrants were served and the raid was the result of joint investigation in the Tri-State.

“A warrant was served on a home that was believed to have information leading to the bank robbery suspects,” Mahjer said. “The raid was conducted by the FBI and ATF. But the South Point Police Department is working on our end and looking to see if there were any connections, but at this point we don’t have a link.”

No names have been released at this time.
