SOUTH POINT — The Village of South Point has a $4.4 million budget for the fiscal year beginning Jan. 1.

The village had an unencumbered balance of $882,368.56 carried over from 2015, according to the certificate of the Lawrence County Budget Commission.

The $4,4403,879.56 total for 2016 is higher than last year’s budget, according to Fiscal Officer Scott Thomas.

“We had a street repaving project,” he said. “Any time you have a special project it’s going to be higher.”

The budget allots $542,727.34 to general governmental use and $96,440.64 to debt service.

Special revenue projects receive $1,124,809.93. Items in this category include $364,111.15 for street and $92,067.52 for fire. The village retirement fund receives $56,000 and the police department fund receives $533,437.

Enterprise funds receive $2,639.901.65, with the three highest items being $787,916.56 for water, $1,353,673.37 for sewer and $169, 248.84 for sanitation.

Council member Mary Cogan said she was pleased with how the budget turned out.

“I’m very happy with it,” she said. “I can’t wait to start a new year with a new mayor.”
