Ironton City Council to have first meeting of year tonight at 6 p.m.

One ordinance, three resolutions and the reappointments of several city officials are on the agenda for the first Ironton City Council meeting of 2016 tonight at 6 p.m. in the council chambers on the third floor of the city building.

Mayor Katrina Keith will begin the meeting with reappointments of Mike McKee to the Zoning Appeals Board, Derek Dufore to the Ironton Health Board, Jim Monte to the Civil Service Commission, Bobbi Nance to the Recreation Advisory Committee and Carolyn Lewis to the Metropolitan Housing Authority.

The first reading will be given of Ordinance 16-03, authorizing the mayor to enter into a contract for health insurance coverage for employees of the city of Ironton and declaring an emergency. The city has received notice of a favorable recommendation for health insurance coverage for the period of Feb. 1, 2016-Feb. 1, 2017. The ordinance would maintain health coverage for all full-time city employees.

Resolutions to be read include:

Resolution 16-01, an authorization to apply for NatureWorks funding, funding through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources that administers financial assistance for public recreation purposes through the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund Program and/or the state of Ohio NatureWorks program.

Resolution 16-02, authorizing the mayor to apply for and administer the Ironton Riverfront Cooperative Facilities Grant application with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Water Craft and declaring an emergency. The city of Ironton was previously awarded a transient boating grant of $636,000.

Resolution 16-04, fixing the number and compensation of certain employees of the city of Ironton and declaring an emergency. The salaries stated shall remain in effect for the year 2016.

There will also be an Ironton Finance Committee meeting at 5 p.m. prior to the regular city council meeting for the purpose of city health insurance renewal and to discuss personnel.
