ROCKSPRINGS — Umm, guess you might say the shots weren’t falling.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings struggle to make shots from anywhere on the court as they lost 48-40 to the Racine Southern Lady Tornadoes 48-40 on Thursday in the Division IV sectional tournament.

The Lady Vikings were 9-of-32 from the field in the first and just 20-of-70 for the game for 28 percent. They were 0-of-12 behind the 3-point line — 0-of-7 in the first half.

And even bigger shooting statistic came at the foul line. The Lady Vikings failed to hit on just eight attempts while Southern converted 20-of-34 attempts including 9-of-19 in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Lady Vikings 11-10.

Jensyn Shepherd had 14 points 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Vikings. Meranda Hayes added 10 points, three assists and three steals while Sierra Ross had seven rebounds.

Southern had three players in double figures. Ali Deem had 16 points, Faith Teaford 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots, and Savannah Bailey 11 points.

Jansen Wolfe grabbed 15 rebounds to go with five blocks for Southern.

Kaitlyn Payne scored all four of her points in the first quarter and the Lady Vikings trailed just 9-8. Deel had a 3-pointer and the Lady Tornadoes were 4-of-4 at the foul line.

Each team had 10 points in the second quarter and it was 19-18 at the half. Southern was 6-of-9 at the line while Hayes scored four for the Lady Vikings.

Southern pulled away to a 37-30 lead at the end of the third quarter as Deem knocked down three 3-pointers. Shepherd scored six points and Kaitlyn Crabtree four points for Symmes Valley.

Haynes and Shepherd combined for 10 points in the fourth quarter but Southern was able to make enough free throws to prevent any comeback hopes.

The Lady Vikings finished 13-9, their first winning season since the 2006-07 season.
