Junior Hornets sweep OVCMS cross country meet

BIDWELL — The future is looking better for the Coal Grove cross country teams.

The Hornets and Lady Hornets swept the Ohio Valley Conference Middle School cross country meet Tuesday. The Hornets had 22 points to Rock Hill’s 37 while the Lady Hornets had 24 points to runner-up Fairland’s 31.

“This is the toughest course our kids have run all year. I’m real proud of their effort,” said Coal Grove coach Rick Roach.

The Hornets’ had point totals of 1-2-5-6-8 while Rock Hill came in with 3-4-7-11-12.

Coal Grove’s Brandon Adkins won the overall individual championship with Connor Flynn of Fairland second, Ethan Hersman of River Valley third, Wyatt Shultz of Coal Grove fourth and Dillion McFann and Seth Miller of Rock Hill fifth and sixth, respectively.

Coal Grove’s Travis Carey was seventh and Zack Kelly eighth, Brandon Burditt of Rock Hill ninth and Josh Pierce of Coal Grove 10th.

Next came Ben Beaty of Fairland, Jacob Blake of Fairland, Porter Sheneward of Fairland, Adam Bryant of Coal Grove, Andrew Gannon of Coal Grove, Luke Taylor of River Valley, Aden Murnahan of Rock Hill, Jacob Bacorn of Rock Hill, and Christian Therrian of Rock Hill.

In the girls’ meet, Coal Grove’s point totals were 2-3-5-6-8 while Fairland was 1-4-7-8-9-10.

Shanan Ashton of Fairland was first individually in the girls’ meet with Sara McFann of Rock Hill second followed by Coal Grove’s Leslie Mulkey and Tori Holmes.

Sarah Warnock of Fairland was fifth followed by Abby Marshall of Rock Hill, Alicia Mossman of Coal Grove, Jeron Duncan of Coal Grove, Faith Hurula of Fairland, Taylor West of Coal Grove, Hannah Moore of Fairland, Lexie Petrie of Fairland, Sierra Holston of Rock Hill, Isabell Adams of Coal Grove and Sara Kidd of Rock Hill.
