Sworn in captain, lieutenant Friday

Promotions within the Ironton Fire Department have new faces filling the roles of captain and lieutenant.

This past Friday, Ironton Mayor Katrina Keith swore in Joe Stevens, who moved from lieutenant to captain, and Mike Misner, who moved from firefighter to lieutenant.

“It’s not very often that we get to see people promoted up in this department,” Keith said. “I’m excited to see these two step up into their new positions and I have every confidence in the world in them.”

Stevens started at the department in 1997 and has served as lieutenant for 14 years, while Misner has been at the Ironton Fire Department since 1998.

“This is what I’ve been working for since I started. I’m familiar with the job duties, so the transition shouldn’t be too hard,” Stevens said. “I’ve worked under some good officers, so I’m just going to try to keep things the same. We don’t want to change anything that’s not broken.”

Misner said he’s also excited about his transition from firefighter to lieutenant, and that his experience will help him with his transition as well.

“They’ve both been here about the same amount of time and have worked very hard to get to this point,” Mike Mahlmeister, Ironton Fire Chief, said. “I don’t see any issues with either in their transitions into their new positions.”
