Karen Matney Simmons was re-appointed to the Lawrence County Board of Elections during an executive committee meeting of the county’s Democratic party Monday night.

This will start Simmons’ fifth term on the board where she is currently the chairperson.

“We are satisfied with Karen’s job,” Craig Allen, chair of the Democratic party, said.

The unanimous recommendation by the committee for the re-appointment of Simmons to another four-year term will be forwarded to the Secretary of State’s office.

The board, made up of two Republicans and two Democrats, is responsible for all preliminary and actual election day activities.

Currently other election board members are Allen, Robert Griffith and Carl Lilly.

The Democratic executive committee also set the date for the 2010 kickoff dinner, which will be Jan. 21 at the VFW Post in Ironton.

The dinner is open to the public and cost is $20 for an individual and $30 for a couple.
