Member Appreciation Day, book-signing set for Saturday at Highlands Museum

ASHLAND — The Highlands Museum and Discovery Center is honoring National Museum Membership Appreciation Month with Member Appreciation Day on Saturday.

From noon-2 p.m. Saturday, museum members will enjoy light refreshments, be able to talk to museum staff about artifacts on display as well as upcoming museum events, and children will be able to participate in arts and crafts in the Discovery Center.

For non-members, benefits of becoming a member of the museum include unlimited visits to the museum for a year, discounts on children’s birthday parties and rentals, and free or discounted admission to hundreds of museums across the country with the Association of Science and Technology Center’s Passport Program.

Also on Saturday, from noon-3 p.m., the museum will be conducting a book signing with William E. Martin for his new book, Ashland Airport: Eastern Kentucky’s Forgotten Field.” The book explores the rich history of the now closed Ashland Airport, which is unknown to many in the region.

The book signing is free and open to the public.

The Highlands Museum and Discovery Center is located at 1620 Winchester Ave. in Ashland.
