COAL GROVE — This game was about everyone.
The Coal Grove Lady Hornets got a complete team effort as they beat the South Point Lady Pointers 51-36 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
“At the beginning of the game we talked about everyone doing what they could do to help the team,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Rick Roach.
“Emileigh Bryant did a great job coming off the bench and giving us some quality time and scored a couple of times.
Emily Compliment scored 19 points to lead the Lady Hornets (10-3, 5-2). Destiny Dolen scored 13 and Bailey McKnight added 11.
Kasey Murphy had 14 rebounds and Addie Dillow handed out eight assists.
“We were able to bounce back from our loss and get a good win. We had good scoring out of a lot of players,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Rick Roach.
“Dolen played great defense the whole game. Compliment got to the basket and scored, McKnight handled the ball great. That’s what we will have to do to win more games this year.”
Emilee Whitt had 18 points and Leah Lawson scored 13 for the Lady Pointers (6-6, 4-3).
South Point took a 10-6 lead in the first quarter as Whitt scored five points as she and Lawson hit 3-pointers.
Compliment scored seven points, Dolen had five points and McKnight hit a 3-pointer as Coal Grove rallied to take a 23-20 halftime lead.
White had seven points for the Lady Pointers.
Coal Grove pulled ahead 34-26 at the end of the third quarter as Kasey Murphy got four points and McKnight knocked down another 3-pointer.
Lawson hit a 3-pointer and scored four points in the quarter.
The Lady Hornets converted 11-of-13 free throws in the fourth quarter including Dolen who went 4-for-4.
Whitt had six points for the Lady Pointers.
“I’m super proud of the girls responding to a good team. Dave Adams does a great job coaching,” said Roach.
On Monday, Coal Grove visits Oak Hill. South Point goes to Chesapeake next Thursday.
