Hornets look to stop Miller’s scoring duo

ATHENS — Welcome back to the Convocation Center.
The Coal Grove Hornets are back in the Ohio University basketball venue after a three-year absence as they play the Miller Falcons at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the Division IV district semifinals.
Miller is 14-8 on the season after blasting Belpre 73-43. The two teams met twice in the regular season and split the series.
Miller lost 56-55 on Jan. 9 but came back to win 71-57 on Feb. 6.
Coal Grove enters the game with a record of 17-5. The Hornets tied the school record for most wins in the regular season with 16.
The Hornets had a chance to break the record against Sciotoville East in the final regular season game on Feb. 24 but the game was canceled.
The Hornets pounded Manchester 61-39 on Tuesday at Northwest High School to win their sectional championship.
Coal Grove is led by the trio of 6-foot-4 senior Sam Angelo, 6-4 senior Jeb Jones and 6-2 junior Aaron Music.
Music scores at an 11.5 clip with 8.0 rebounds, Angelo has an 11.0 scoring average with 7.0 rebounds a contest while Jones gets 8.0 points and 7.5 rebounds patrolling the inside.
Miller is led by the senior tandem of Carson Starlin and Seattle Compston.
The 5-10 Starlin averages 16.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 4.0 steals a game while Compston goes for 15 points and 6.5 rebounds a contest.
The winner of Sunday’s game will advance to the district finals at noon on Saturday, March 10, against the winner of the Federal Hocking vs. New Boston game at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.
