PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redmen decided to work on a greatest hits album.
The Redmen had 12 hits to back the pitching of Logan Hankins as they blanked the Coal Grove Hornets in six innings on Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Logan Hankins went the distance for the win. He struck out six and did not walk a batter as he allowed six hits.
“We hit the ball well,” said Redmen coach Barry Litteral. “Hankins threw the ball well again. They only got one runner reach third base and only two reach second base.”
Rock Hill (4-0, 2-0) had 12 hits led by Seth Nichols, Jaret Bacorn, Kaden France and Hankins all going 2-for-3.
The Redmen jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Nichols walked, stole second and scored on Cody Lewis’ base hit. Lewis stole second, took third on a ground out and came home on a hit by Hankins.
Hankins stole second and score on a hit by France.
The lead went to 6-0 in the third.
Nichols singled, stole second and went to third on an error and came home on Kaleb Kidd’s ground out.
Hankins and France singled to put runners on the corner, France stole second and both scored on Bacorn’s base hit.
The Redmen got two runs in the fourth when Brayden Friend and Jake Blagg singled, Nichols reached on a force out at third, Lewis singled in a run and Nichols came home when Kidd was safe on an error.
A run scored in the fifth on a hit by Bacorn, a balk, a throwing error and a wild pitch.
The final run scored in the sixth on a double by Nichols, a hit by Lewis and a sacrifice fly by Kidd.
Jeb Jones and Sam Angelo each went 2-for-3 for the Hornets (1-2, 0-2).
On Friday, Rock Hill plays Fairland at home in two games starting at 4:30. The Redmen are scheduled to play at Whiteoak on Saturday.
Coal Grove visits Portsmouth on Friday.
