Readers of The Tribune will notice a new byline in the paper for feature stories in the coming months.

Maddie Cogan, a South Point native, will be interning with The Tribune for the summer, writing profile stories with a focus on local businesses.

Cogan, who attends Mount Vernon Nazarene University near Mansfield and will graduate in December, has returned home from the summer.

While here, she also will be interning for the Tri-State STEM+M Early College High School.

Cogan is the daughter of Mary Cogan, who serves on South Point council and runs South Point Storage, and Carlton Cogan, who has worked as an account executive for WSAZ for 30 years.

She is majoring in public relations, with a minor in marketing.

“I watched dad growing up and saw how much fun he had with clients,” she said. “I love people and working with them every day excites me.”

She said her goal is to be a public relations professional and work in the broader communications field.

“I’ll be coming back to the Tri-State after I graduate,” she said.

While working for The Tribune, she will be interviewing business owners around Lawrence County.

“I like to know what drives people and learn about why they do what they do,” she said.

Her first story for The Tribune, on Conley Insurance, runs in today’s paper.
