There will be military jets flying over the 150th annual Ironton-Lawrence County Memorial Day Parade on Monday.

Grand Marshal Brent Pyles said that this would be the first time in two years that jets will fly over the parade.

“I received an email from the Ohio Air National Guard that they have approved our fly over for Monday’s parade,” he said. “At 10:30 a.m., we should have two F-16 Vipers from the Toledo Air Wing.”

Pyles said it was quite the process to get approval. First, the U.S. Depatrment of Defense has to approve it, then the Federal Aviation Administration has to approve it, and once those are approved, the request goes to the Ohio Air National Guard to see if they have aircraft and pilots available.

“Each year, a lot of different Memorial Day events apply for a fly over. In Ohio, there are only, maybe, 20-25 events that are approved per year,” he said. “And this year, we were lucky enough to be one.”

Pyles said the last fly over was in 2016.
