Tuesday night concerts start next week

A new season of Tuesday night concerts kick off next week.

The family-friendly events are from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Ironton Farmers Market on Second Street in Ironton. The band “Carrier” starts off the new summer season.

“They played 70s music, I think it is a good band to start us off with,” said Sam Heighton, executive director of Ironton aLive.

This is the sixth year for the summer music concert series.

“It grows every year,” he said. “And we have good sponsors this year. It takes money to keep it going and sponsors keep coming through. We expect to have some good entertainment this year.

Heighton said that the event is designed to be family-friendly.

“It is for families, you can bring your kids and enjoy music for two hours,” he said. “We like to get people downtown and we think Ironton is a family-friendly town and it is a good way to bring family and friends together. A lot of people will meet up with their friends and neighbors there. Just like the farmers market. It is just a friendly atmosphere.”

Heighton said that the number of people who show depends on the type of music being played that particular Tuesday.

“Sometimes, we will have 100 people. Sometimes, we will have 300-400 people,” he said. “It just depends on the type of entertainment we have. We have all types of music.”

Concertgoers are asked to bring a lawn chair so they have a place to sit.

Sponsors for the event include Perry Distributors of Ironton, Phillips Funeral Home, Glockner of Ironton and Ashland, J & J Maintenance, Servpro of Southern Scioto and Lawrence Co., and Christen Finley. The producers for the concerts are Studimo productions and Ironton aLive.
