A Taste of Ironton held at Farmers Market

The sweltering heat did not keep people away from a chance for good eating.

A Taste of Ironton took place on Saturday at the Farmers Market and crowds packed the square, despite the heat index of more than 100 degrees, for a chance to sample food from restaurants and caterers from around the region.

Vendors included those such as Tudor’s Biscuit World, which was serving beans and cornbread, and Pick’n Save, who had brownies, along with hot fudge cake, lemon cake and strawberry shortcake.

For $10, attendees could purchase of booklet of sampling tickets, which could be used at all of the vendors.

One returning participant was Bill Schaffer, of Haute Stuff Catering, who was offering things like roast beef sandwiches and meatballs.

“It’s been wonderful,” Schaffer, of Greenup, said of turnout. He added that, last year, he was the top seller for the event.

While the crowds enjoyed the food, they were treated to music from performers such as Brandon Whitt, while the Farmers Market’s usual vendors were on hand, selling produce and other items.
