Hydrant flushing starts Monday in Chesapeake

Beginning Monday, Aqua Ohio will be opening water hydrants to flush out sediment out of the water system in the Chesapeake area.

On Monday, they will be flushing done in the Chesapeake and East Chesapeake area. On Tuesday, it will be done in Chesapeake, Big Branch, West Chesapeake and Sybene areas.

On Wednesday, flushing will be done in Buffalo Creek, Charley Creek, Sybene and Sandusky Road area. On Thursday and Friday, Burlington and the rest of the system to the west will be flushed.

The flushing will take place between 10 p.m.-2 a.m.

Aqua Ohio does this every year to make maintain water quality and to ensure hydrants are working properly.

Customers may experience a slight drop in water pressure or temporary discoloration of water during the flushing. And even if the water is discolored, it is still safe to drink since it has been disinfected.

If there is discoloration, turn on the cold water tap until the water runs clear. People should not do laundry during the flushing.
