COAL GROVE — All wins are good wins.
That’s the feeling for the Coal Grove Lady Hornets who downed the Rock Hill Redwomen 55-34 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
“A win is a win, but we played sporadic,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Rick Roach. “We would do one good thing and two bad things.
“I thought we did a good job sharing the ball in the first half. The second half we weren’t patient on offense and we had a lot of one and dones.”
Addi Dillow led all scorers with 20 points for the Lady Hornets (3-2, 3-1). Lauren Crum and Kaleigh Murphy added nine points each.
Destiny Dolen and Murphy both played sparingly due to illness.
Makayla Scott scored 19 points for Rock Hill (0-5, 0-4) which shot 12-of-39 from the field for 31 percent.
Scott six in the first quarter, seven in third 3-3 FT, four fourth.
Coal Grove went up 17-11 in the first quarter as Lauren Crum hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored all nine of her points. Scott had six for the Redwomen.
The lead grew to 35-19 at the half as Dillow got the hot hand and scored 10 points including a 3-pointer. Kaleigh Murphy also hit a trey and Abbey Hicks added four points.
“Crum had a nice first quarter which was followed up by Dillow’s big second quarter,” said Roach.
“Scott did a good job for them getting to the basket, drawing the foul and finishing. She is a tough player.”
The Lady Hornets continued to pull away in the third quarter as Dillow and Baylee McKnight combined for 10 points and the lead was 49-24. Scott scored all seven Rock Hill points in the quarter.
Coal Grove is at Lincoln County, W.Va., on Monday. Rock Hill visits St. Joseph next Thursday.
