Ironton Elks host Christmas party for Rock Hill students

For more than 30 years, members of the Ironton Elks Lodge have made sure that Christmas is better for a group of students at Rock Hill Elementary.

The lodge brought their annual Christmas party to the school on Monday, providing gifts, food, fun and a visit with Santa to multi-category disability students at the school.

Elks secretary Fred Jones said the event is paid for through grants and donations and that the lodge gets in touch with the teachers, who sit down with each student and get a wish list for gifts for the Elks to buy.

“We have to give a lot of credit to the teachers,” Jones said. “They put in a lot of work for this.”

Jones said that the event is something lodge members look forward to each year.

“It’s a wonderful time, just to see the smiles on these kids’ faces,” he said.

Food for the event was donated by Giovanni’s Pizza in Coal Grove and, altogether, the event provided for 52 children.
