Kittens’ 3-point goals prove too much for SP girls to overcome

SOUTH POINT — It rained water outside. It rained 3s inside.
The Ashland Kittens hit eight 3-point goals as they handed the South Point Lady Pointers their first loss of the season 57-37 on Thursday.
Jada Miller, Carley Cullop and Julia Parker all hit 3-pointers and Mikayla Martin converted a three-point play as Ashland took a 16-7 first quarter lead.
Maddy Khounlavong and Emilee Carey combined for all of South Point’s total.
The Lady Pointers (5-1) cut into the lead in the second quarter as Carey had five points including a trey and Sarah Roach added a triple to make it 24-18 at the half.
But Martin scored s points in the third quarter and Parker hit two more 3-pointers as Ashland outscored South Point 17-10 and extended its lead to 41-28.
Cullop and Parker had 3-pointers in the fourth quarter with Martin and Parker each scoring five points as Ashland outscored the Lady Pointers 16-9.
Emilee Whitt scored five points including 3-of-3 at the foul line for the Lady Pointers.
Whitt finished with 11 points and Carey 10 points to pace the Lady Pointers.
Martin scored 18 points while Parker hit four 3-pointers and scored 16 points to lead Ashland (6-2).
South Point host South Webster on Saturday, Dec. 29.
