DUBLIN, OH — The Fairland Dragons found out the 3-out-4 can be bad.
The Dragons had three good quarter but one really bad one as they lost to the Dublin Jerome Celtics 63-45 in the Jerome Holiday Tournament.
Fairland (5-2) managed just four points in the second quarter and fell behind by 21 points at halftime. The Dragons outscored the Celtics 31-28 in the second half.
Clayton Thomas hit five 3-pointers and scored 15 points for the Dragons while Jacob Polcyn added 12 points. Ian Chinn had 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Jerome (5-3) had three players in double figures as Dan Lee scored 14, Trey Ballengee 12 and Matthew Montgomery added 10.
The Celtics took a 14-10 first quarter lead as six different players scored. Aiden Porter had four of his six points in the quarter for Fairland.
In the pivotal second quarter, Montgomery had six points, Ballengee scored five including a 3-pointer while Jack Kemp and Colin Rust also hit treys to open up a 35-14 lead at intermission.
Polcyn scored all of Fairland’s points in the quarter.
Thomas hit two trifectas and Matt Mondlak added another as Fairland fought back and trailed 50-27. Joey Pickering, Derek Sanders and Lee all hit triples for the Celtics.
The Dragons outscored Jerome 18-13 in the fourth quarter as Thomas drained three more 3-pointers while Polcyn and AndyLange had four points each.
But Lee hit two more treys and Ballengee added one to prevent any comeback.
Fairland plays in the tournament again on Saturday.
