HUNTINGTON — Ohio University’s LIGHTS Regional Innovation Network and the Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) are offering a pair of free workshops to help business owners and entrepreneurs in the Tri-State.

The workshops will help give people the tools to develop strategies for delivering the best value of their products or services to customers.

The first workshop, Value Proposition Workshop, will be from noon-3 p.m. on Thursday.

Instructors from the LIGHTS Network will provide a hands-on introduction of the Strategyzer Value Proposition Canvas. Participants will learn how to use the canvas and work toward finding value for customers immediately. Participants may register for this workshop at www.rcbi.org/go/value.

The second workshop will be on Thursday, Feb. 14, also from noon-3 p.m., and will be about the Strategyzer Business Model Canvas.

Participants will take the value proposition they established the week before and develop a strategy to deliver their products or services. The workshop will help participants determine key resources, partners and activity channels and how much those resources may cost.

Both workshops take place at RCBI’s Huntington Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center at 1050 Fourth Ave. Lunch will be provided.

LIGHTS and the Robert C. Byrd Institute are just two of the regional organizations that are in discussions about bringing a business incubator to Ironton or Lawrence County.

The group met last March to talk on what would be a good fit for this area. Some of the ideas kicked around included starting a manufacturing incubator at The Point industrial park in South Point, a hybrid workspace in Ironton, focusing on retail as an option, with co-working space, meeting and training rooms, event space and more. If these options were selected, they could operate under a shared management system as a business service organization.

There is a survey on the City of Ironton’s Facebook page, Ironton-OH Government, asking questions of people from the tri-state area who are interested in starting a business or expanding an existing business. The survey takes about five minutes.
