PROCTORVILLE — There’s a new Marshall in town.
After Allie Marshall helped Fairland to success the past four years before heading off the Cedarville University, the Lady Dragons were looking to fill the void.
Younger sister Emma Marshall did just that on Thursday as she helped lead Fairland to a 60-31 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Gallipolis Blue Angels.
Marshall was 4-of-9 from the 3-point arc and scored 20 points to go with 5 rebound, 3 assists and 3 steals.
Jenna Stone also scored 20 points and had 4 assists while Tomi Hinkle turned in a big game for Fairland with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.
Maddy Petro had a double-doubled with 11 points and 11 rebounds while Alex Barnes got 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists for Gallipolis (1-4, 0-3).
Fairland led 5-4 when Barnes hit three baskets over the final 1:07 of the quarter and Gallipolis led 10-7.
Marshall’s 3-pointer tied the game to begin the second quarter only to have Kaylie Clark score and Gallipolis was on top 12-10 with seven minutes left in the half.
Marshall hit back-to-back 3-pointers as Fairland went up 18-14 with 3:22 on the clock. Her third triple gave Fairland a 21-17 lead before two foul shots by Barnes made it a 21-19 game at the half.
The Lady Dragons’ defense took over in the third quarter and they opened the half with a 9-0 run to lead 30-19.
After Gallipolis got within 32-22 with 1:56 left on the clock, Fairland went on another 9-0 run and led 41-22 at the end of the quarter.
Five different players scored in the fourth quarter and Fairland ended the game with a 10-0 run.
The Lady Dragons’ defense forced Gallipolis into 23 turnovers.
Fairland plays in the Big E Classic on Saturday against Warren at 6:15 and host Chesapeake on Monday. Gallipolis visits Portsmouth on Monday.
