Each game is different and different players have good games for the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers.
But the one constant all season has been the Ironton defense and that was the case on Saturday as the Lady Fighting Tigers shut down the Lewis County Lady Lions 50-30 in the annual Tackett’s Body Shop Shootout.
Samantha LaFon had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Lexie Arden turned in a solid all-around performance with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals and 3 blocked shots to lead the Ironton.
Evan Williams contributed with 12 points and 4 rebounds to help the Lady Fighting Tigers improve to 17-3.
But it was the Ironton defense that shined by limiting Lewis County to 12-of-38 shooting for 31.6 percent.
Cheyenne D’Souza had 9 points and 7 rebounds to pace the Lady Lions (11-11).
Ironton took a 9-2 lead to start the game and Kameren Arden’s layup to end the first quarter had the lead at 11-4.
Evan Williams layup off a pass from Lexie Arden started the second quarter and Ironton led 13-4.
The Lady Fighting Tigers hit a dry spell and Lewis County cut the deficit to 15-8 on a foul shot by Sarah Weddnington.
But Williams hit a foul shot, Riley Schreck drained a 3-pointer and LaFon hit a free throw to give Ironton a 20-8 lead with 2:30 to go in the half.
Payton McGlone and Weddington scored to get Lewis County within 20-12 at the half.
McGlone scored to start the second half and make it 20-14, but Lydia Hannon sank two foul shots to start an 8-0 run capped by Lexie Arden’s steal and 3-pointer to make it 28-14.
LaFon hit two baskets to close the quarter and give Ironton a commanding 37-20 lead.
Ellie Williams hit a 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter to make it 40-20 and a trifecta by Evan Williams gave Ironton its biggest lead of the game at 48-25.
