City crews checking water level
Ironton city crews are gearing up for the possibility of flooding this weekend as the rains continue to pound the Tri-State.
As of Wednesday afternoon the Ohio River stood at 47 feet, one foot below the mark when the first floodgates go up, according to Mike Pemberton, city street department superintendent.
Right now, crews are getting ready with cranes, steel and an extra pump, waiting to see what the river does.
The first gate to go up will be on Storms Creek in the north end of the city. The river is supposed to reach 55.2 feet by Sunday at Ashland, which will mean it will be at 52.2 feet in Ironton.
