SOUTH POINT — Cross Community Church in South Point is teaming up with the South Point Volunteer Fire Department to bring some Easter smiles to children in the area.

Eggapalooza begins at noon Saturday at the old South Point High School football field. The event is free and open to the community.

“It’s basically a big Easter egg hunt,” said Jimmy Lemon, a staff pastor at Cross Community Church. “There will be about 10,000 Easter eggs for children from birth to 12.”

The egg hunt will be divided into sections by age groups. There will also be prizes, including bikes, Easter baskets, several Nintendo DSes and a Nintendo Wii.

Registration for Eggapalooza begins at 11 a.m., but can be done online at www.aroundc3.com/eggapalooza. Directions can also be found on the website.

Lemon said the fire department has participated each year and the church asked if they could partner with them this year.

“Our church, we try to do a lot of community events,” Lemon said. “We try once a month for an outreach project. We try to do some good things with the community.”

In addition to supplying eggs and prizes, the church will help supply volunteers.

“We will have probably 100 volunteers from our church here to make sure the kids stay safe and things go smoothly and get everyone in and out and for parking,” Lemon said.

Involvement in the community is something Lemon said the church finds natural.

“We feel God cares about the community so we should too,” Lemon said. “We care about not just ourselves, but also the people around us. It’s the heart of who we are as a church.”
