IRONTON — The Ironton Lions Club recently rebuilt the historic State Route 75 overlook that the club maintains at the intersection of U.S. 52 and S.R. 93 in Ironton.

After years of use and abuse, the club members recognized the need to refurbish the sight. After working eight Saturdays and in excess of 270 manhours to complete the project, the overlook was reopened to the public in July.

“The overlook provides a scenic view of downtown Ironton, the Ohio River, Kentucky and points beyond. Aside from the scenery, the overlook affords historic information regarding the tunnel, picnic areas and an opportunity for cardio-pulmonary exercise,” said Lions Club president Lou Pyles.

“The many steps to reach the overlook allows for increased physical activity that can lead to a longer life and improved health. Exercise helps prevent heart disease, and many other health problems. Exercise builds strength, gives you more energy and helps to reduce stress” Plyes Said.” It is also a good way to reduce appetite and burn calories.”

“The Ironton Lions Club is proud to offer this service to our community and to all those that wish to visit Southern Ohio.”
