An Ironton man accused in connection with an April shooting was arraigned Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

George Massie, 26, of 4656 State Route 141, Ironton, was arraigned on one count of felonious assault with a gun specification and one count of tampering with evidence.

Massie pleaded not guilty through his attorney, Warren Morford. Assistant Lawrence County Prosecutor Bob Anderson asked Judge D. Scott Bowling to continue a $100,000 cash bond set in Ironton Municipal Court.

“These are very serious charges,” Anderson said. “He’s facing up to 13 years in the penitentiary.”

But Morford asked Bowling to consider a lower bond.

“My client is not a flight risk. He resides here in Lawrence County and has all of his life. He was unable to make the $100,000 cash bond but he does have relatives with property. He might be able to make a property bond.”

Bowling set a cash bond of $100,000 and scheduled a pretrial for May 27.

In another matter, Nico Fuentes, 19, of 1260B Junior Road, Ironton, was arraigned on a probation violation, an allegation he denied. Fuentes was one of two men who pleaded guilty to vandalizing the Ironton Country Club last year.

Lawrence County Prosecutor J.B. Collier, Jr., said Fuentes was kicked out of the STAR Community Justice Center and did not complete the rehabilitation program, which was part of his original sentence.

Bowling scheduled a probation violation trial for Wednesday.

Also Wednesday, William H. Bailey, 43, 609R Buckhorn St., Ironton, was arraigned on one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. He pleaded not guilty.

Judge Charles Cooper set bond at $25,0000 cash or surety or $50,000 property.

Bailey must return to court Wednesday for a pretrial conference. Cooper also ordered Bailey to stay from his alleged victim.

Frederick Kalmback, 37, of Ashland, Ky., pleaded guilty on a bill of information to felony grand theft and two counts of misdemeanor theft.

Bowling sentenced him to a total of 12 months in prison. He was accused of stealing a 2005 Chevrolet Colbalt April 29 and as well as the theft of two other items two days later.

“My client was under the influence of drugs when this happened,” Kalmback’s attorney, Warren Morford, said. “The car was recovered undamaged.”

Cletis E. White, 57, of Huntington, W.Va., was arraigned on one count of gross sexual imposition involving a five-year-old girl.

Cooper set bond at $50,000 cash or $100,000 surety and scheduled a pretrial for Wednesday. Cooper further ordered him to stay away from his victim.
