A new avenue has been established to aid a Perry Township woman assaulted and then badly burned in a fire at her residence April 29.

Becky Miller and Leigh Ann Campbell, both cousins of Amy Wilcox, said those who wish to donate money may do so at the National City Bank in Coal Grove. A fund has been established there to help with the immediate needs of the children as well as Amy’s future needs.

The children are in the care of Amy Wilcox’s family. She is in a Cincinnati area hospital.

Miller said she and her family are appreciative of the kindness people have shown since the incident.

“I’m still amazed,” Miller said. “And as small a community as we are. The family is overwhelmed by the graciousness of this community.”

Miller said Ironton dentist, Dr. Robert Barnett, has volunteered to write off the balance of the cost of one Wilcox children’s orthodontia.

Both Miller and Campbell said they are pleased with the efforts of Wilcox’s church, which has also established a fund for the family.

“The churches in this community, they really stand behind their own,” Campbell said. Wilcox is a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church.

There is also a benefit planned for noon-4 p.m. May 16 at Dawson-Bryant High School.

“When this happened I was told there were several groups who wanted to do something and I thought if we could get them together it would be more organized,” Miller explained.

A number of area groups, churches and businesses have contributed to this event. It will include food and an auction at 4 p.m.
