BEAVER — Symmes Valley might have left a lot of runners on base, but the Lady Vikings didn’t leave without a win.

The Lady Vikings failed to score in several innings before putting together one big rally as they beat the Eastern Lady Eagles 6-3 on Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“Eastern was a scrappy little team. We hit the ball well and they made the plays when they had to. We left a lot of runners on base,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

Eastern got a run in the first inning on a pair of hits and that stood up until the sixth inning when the Lady Vikings scored all their runs.

Erica Corn reached on an error to start the inning and Nikki Nance and Jessie Morris singled to load the bases. Chelsea Wall, Hailey Pelletier and Brooke Skinner all singled to drive in runs and Julie Carter had a two-run double.

Libby Ash hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the final run.

Eastern used an error, a walk and two hits to score twice in the bottom of the seventh with one out.

But Pelletier made a nice catch of a line drive to centerfield and threw back to second base to double off the runner and end the game.

“Hailey made a nice play and bailed us out,” said Estep.

Corn got the win as she allowed four hits, struck out seven and walked six. She also went 2-4 at the plate.

Nance and Morris were 2-4 as the Lady Vikings collected 11 hits.

Symmes Valley (14-5, 6-3) hosts Sciotoville East in a doubleheader on Saturday.
