Food service licenses may be needed at Rally on the River

IRONTON — Anyone selling food at the Rally on the River event must to check with the Ironton City Health Department.

Even if you or your organization are not preparing hot dogs, nachos, hamburgers, or other hot or cold foods, a temporary food service license may be required.

Individuals who package or re-package popcorn, cotton candy, or other food items must have a temporary food service license. All temporary food service licenses need to be applied for no later than Tuesday, Aug. 9. The temporary food service license fee is $50 for the event.

If anyone is setting up a temporary campground for the parking of RV’s, campers, or tents, a temporary campground permit may be required.

A temporary campground consists of five or more units parked for an event.

You must apply at the health department and bring a diagram or layout of the purposed temporary campground.

The fee is $15 per day. Applications are due by Tuesday, Aug 9.

Relaxation Day at BCPL is Aug. 15

ASHLAND, Ky. — Boyd County Public Library is taking a day to help people relax.

Relaxation Day is Monday, Aug. 15, at the Main Branch, 1740 Central Ave.

Throughout the day, families of kids 12 and under can register in the youth services department to win a “stress reducing evening” for the whole family.

The prize includes books to share together and relaxing music to help you drift off to sleep.

Everyone who registers will receive a free sandwich coupon from Chick-fil-A and a candy bar (Don’t cook – relax!).

Also, at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m, kids and adults can join library staff to blow bubbles in the Library Commons, just adjacent to the Main Branch.

Lawrence County Health Department to offer physicals

IRONTON — The Lawrence County Health Department will offer physicals for sports, work and college starting Aug. 12.

The clinic will be on Fridays from 7:45 to 9:40 a.m. An appointment is necessary and can be made by calling (740) 532-3962.

Sports physicals will cost $25. College, bus drivers and pre-employment physicals will cost $30.

Truck drivers may also get a physical but with no drug screening. All physicals must be paid for at the time of the service. Medicaid will be accepted.

Ironton resident named to Berea College Dean’s List

BEREA Ky. — Ironton resident Sydnee Baker has been named to the Spring 2011 Dean’s List at Berea College.

A student who achieves a GPA of 3.2 or higher for a minimum course load equivalent to 16 semester hours is named to the dean’s list.
