ROME TOWNSHIP — The two top winners for market rabbits were first time victors in the competition, but veteran competitors.

Logan Reed, 10, of Ironton and a member of Kitts Hill Willing Workers took grand champion for his two rabbits at Monday morning’s competition. This is Logan’s second year to compete.

“I feel like super excited,” he said.

Logan said the secret to his success was dedication to the animals’ care.

“It is mostly feeding and caring,” he said. “I get them out to exercise 30 minutes to an hour each day.”

Pulling the reserve champion prize was Megan Castle of Proctorville. The 13-yer-old is a member of Five-Mile Frontiersman.

Megan has competed since she was 9. She got into market rabbits to follow in the footsteps of two family members. Megan said one of the greatest challenges is making sure the rabbits maintain the weight parameters.

Judging Monday’s competition was open-class certified judge Danny Long of Williamsburg.

He called the competitors first class.

“All the rabbits were competitive,” he said. “All the kids were very kind, very generous and good sportsmen.”
