This year’s Kudos for Caring award from the Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District went to Chris Smith of South Point.

“Each year we recognize an outstanding individual, group or organization for their efforts in recycling, cleanup litter prevention, or a project that has a positive impact,” Dan Palmer, director of the district, said. “He does a lot for the community and he’s very active. We chose the right person.”

Smith who is a state trooper and helped establish People for the Point, is on the South Point village council, and sets up cleanups and other events throughout the county, Palmer said. He also calls things into the district that he sees to help keep the county clean.
