Panthers’ Pelfrey goes 1-2 a state meet

COLUMBUS — Shane Pelfrey was on the big stage and gave a solid performance.
The Chesapeake Panthers senior wrestler went 1-2 at the Ohio High School Athletic Association state tournament this weekend held before a three-day crowd of 37,806 at the Ohio State University Schottenstein Center.
In the Division III state tournament, Pelfrey lost his first match of the championship preliminaries 14-7 to Matt Meadows of Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy.
He bounced back in the first consolation round to beat Tom Leahey of Swanton 6-5. But in the second consolation round, Pelfrey dropped a 5-0 decision to Miles Chapman of Bascom Hopewell-Loudon.
Pelfrey ended the season with an impressive 29-6 record. He was the runner-up in the Division III district tournament to earn a berth in the state tournament.
Pelfrey is the first Panthers’ wrestler to reach the state meet since 1999.
