Phillips pleads guilty; to attend driving school

COVINGTON, Ky. — Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips has pleaded guilty to reckless driving and will be required to attend traffic school.

Phillips entered the plea Tuesday in Kenton County district court in Covington, Ky., just south of Cincinnati. A judge also ordered Phillips to pay a $134 fine.

He was arrested Friday night after police said he was going 72 in a 35-mph zone. Police said Phillips was polite and cooperative and that no alcohol was involved. He was released quickly on $25 bond.

Phillips was with his mother and has said he was rushing to a late family dinner.

The 29-year-old Phillips has played a key role in the Reds’ winning record, batting over .300 with stellar defense.
