Vikings rout Rebels, 75-61

WILLOW WOOD — The Symmes Valley Vikings won the game. They also won the foul shooting contest.

In a game marred by 48 fouls and 53 free throw attempts, the Vkings beat the South Gallia Rebels 75-61 on Friday.

The Vikings were 22-of-30 from the foul line while the Rebels made 12-of-23.

“We’re starting to do things a lot better. When we stop fouling so much, we’ll be alright. We’re keeping teams in the game at the line,” said Vikings’ coach Donnie Saunders.

Jacob Klaiber scored 17 points to lead five Vikings in double figures. Jonathon Kouns had 15 points, Tyler Rowe and Ryan Gibson 13 each and Dylan Malone 10.

Brayden Greer scored 25 points and Landon Hutchinson 18 to pace the R3ebels (6-2).

Rowe scored 8 points in the first quarter as the Vikings (5-1) took a 14-10 lead.

After Symmes Valley went up 29-22 at the half, Kouns had 8 points as the Vikings outscored the Rebels 18-9 to widen the cushion to 47-31 at the end of the third quarter.

Klaiber had 13 points in the fourth quarter and the Vikings converted all 13 of their free throw attempts.

Greer socred 12 points and Hutchinson 8 in the fourth quarter, but South Gallia was just 7-of-14 at the line.

The Vikings host Portsmouth Clay Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

In earlier games, Josh Dial scored 13 points as the Vikings’ jayvees won 50-36. The Symmes Valley freshmen won 50-15.
