The St. Joseph Female Flyers took a “chill pill,” it just took a few minutes before it kicked in.

The Female Flyers got off to a slow start, but once they got rolling they didn’t stop as they beat the Portsmouth West Lady Senators 8-1 Monday in a soccer game.

“We were creating chances but we just lacked the composure on the final pass or shot attempt,” said Female Flyers’ coach Kyle Weatherholt.

“Finally, about 20 minutes into the game, Emma Saxby finished one on an assist from Ophelia Weatherholt. Five minutes later Lynsey Booker scored on an assist from Kaylee Sheridan. They seemed to relax a little after the two goals and started playing better soccer.”

After taking the 2-0 lead, Saxby got an unassisted goal and it was 3-0 at the half.

Sidney Payne scored with an assist from Weatherholt and then Sheridan ran off three straight goals for a 7-0 lead.

Saxby and Payne each had an assist on Sheridan’s goals. Sheridan’s third shot with net GPS was unassisted.

West got a nice goal by Marina Zamaro, but the Female Flyers answered with a late goal by Brea Eastham.

St. Joseph hosts South Point at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
