AID — It was shutdown and beat down.

Chayden Renfroe shut down the Sciotoville East Tartans’ hitters with a one-hitter and the Symmes Valley offense generated an 11-0 Southern Ohio Conference win on Monday.

Renfroe struck out 10 and walked two in getting the win.

The Vikings had eight hits as Trent Thompson went 2-for-3 with a double, Tanner Mays 2-3 and Payton Hayes was 1-2 with a double.

“It was good to get a league win and we got a chance to play some of the younger kids,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe. “Chayden threw the ball pretty well and we had some timely hits.”

The Vikings (7-1, 6-1) got two runs in the first inning on a single by Mays, a balk, a passed ball, a walk and Thompson’s RBI single.

Symmes Valley scored seven runs in the second on five hits including two-run doubled by Hayes and Thompson.

Derik Brace had a run-scoring single in the fourth to complete the scoring.

The Vikings play Gallipolis on Tuesday.

“Gallipolis is a good team. This will be a good test for our kids,” said coach Renfroe.
